Horseback Riding At Turkey Mountain
Under Title 26 of the Tulsa Revised Ordinances, horseback riding is prohibited in all park areas except for those trails or facilities specifically designated for equestrian use. River Parks has a single designated loop trail at Turkey Mountain for equestrian use provided that the rider obtain a Special Use Permit from the River Parks Authority. This loop is not maintained for specifically horses and is open to hikers, dog walkers, children, and mountain bikers. Please see below for requirements of the Special Use Permit and application.
Requirements for an Equestrian Permit
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or accompanied by a permitted adult.
• All riders must have applied for and received their own permit.
• Must be seasoned riders with expertise in horsemanship able to navigate difficult terrain with significant elevation.
• No commercial tours or rides permitted.
Applicants Must Provide
• Description of vehicle (make, model, color) pulling horse trailer and license plate number
• Description of horse (color, pattern)
• Basic contact information for rider (name, phone, email address)
Limitations of Equestrian Use
• Permit valid Monday through Friday ONLY. Horses are prohibited on all weekends.
• Horses are only permitted when trail conditions are listed as "OPEN". Note that trails often close after rains or weather events. CLICK HERE to check trail conditions.
• Equestrians are limited to a single designated loop trail (see below). This 2.5 mile loop starts and finishes at the Upper Parking lot. The Loop is CLEARLY marked with GREEN Fiberglass Marker Posts.
• Trailers are only permitted to park at the Upper Parking Lot. Trailers and horses are not permitted in the lower parking lot or new 61st street parking lot.
• Galloping, cantering, or running is prohibited.
• Equestrians are limited to a single designated trail. This 2.5 mile loop starts and finishes at the Upper Parking lot.
• No cleaning out horse manure, hay, or trailers in parking lot. Riders must do their best to remove manure from the trails.
• River Parks Authority reserves the right to deny a permit to or void the permit of any person who has violated the requirements of the permit.
• Permit valid for 90 days from date of issue.
